About the Job:

Position Summary: Acts as a representative in all areas of clerical support. Assumes responsibility for all facets of front desk operations, including greeting and registering patients, answering phones, scheduling appointments, and entering patient demographics. Retrieving and updating medical records and performing general clerical and other duties as assigned in accordance with NCQA and government standards, as well as policies and procedures of Diagnostic Imaging. Calls MRI patients prior to appointment to obtain information to complete MRI screening form. Research patient operation reports and surgical implants for MRI compatibility to provide needed information for the Radiologist to approve MRI to proceed or not.

What You’ll Do:

  • Communicates with the patient prior to MRI appointment.
  • Completes MRI screening form on each patient at least 48 hours prior to appointment when possible.
  • Communicates with Physician Offices to obtain previous imaging studies for comparison if needed.
  • Answers incoming telephone calls from patients, central booking, doctor's offices, hospital staff, screens them and responds courteously and/or refers individual to the appropriate person.
  • Prints MRI orders to scan into PACS.
  • Knowledgeable of EPIC functions pertaining to MRI appointments.
  • Retrieves images (CD) from outside offices, institutions, and patients in a timely manner
  • Faxes release forms to obtain previous medical imaging information.
  • Assists radiologists and referring physicians with retrieval of information such as previous exams, reports and medical implant information.
  • Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary of medical ethics.
  • Communicates with house patients prior to MRI to obtain medical implant information.
  • Assists technologists with moving patients on to MRI scan table when needed.
  • Completes annual mandatory education on time.
  • Exercises care in the use and operation of equipment and reference materials.
  • Performs routine maintenance to ensure continued functioning of equipment. Places service calls when equipment is malfunctioning.
  • Maintains work area and the department waiting area in a clean organized manner.
  • Participates in appropriate role in fire and disaster drills, fires and other situations in the environment of care.

Who You Are:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years related experience required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to record patient symptoms and surgical history for MRI purposes. Knowledge of departmental and hospital safety policies and infections control policies and procedures. Knowledge of departmental and hospital confidentiality policies pertinent to patient information and hospital data.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and related software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communications and positive working relationships within the department, with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
  • Ability to endure periods of heavy workload or stress. Ability to interact with irate customers.
