Elliot Health System - Buyer - Food Service Production - Full Time

About the Job:

Coordinates the purchasing of foods and materials for the Food and Nutrition department. Works under close supervision of the Production Manager. Researches and selects products according to quality, price, and serviceability standards.

What You’ll Do:

• Maintains a proper and safe inventory level using FIFO to provide the highest quality food products.
• Purchases materials, equipment, and food supplies. Maintains purchase order and invoice files and data.
• Contacts vendors and hospital personnel to ensure actions are completed as requested.
• Coordinates purchase and delivery or pickup of special products from local vendors.
• Coordinates employee purchase programs (food and paper supplies).
• Interviews sales representatives, secures bids and quotes, selects supplies, food and places orders.
• Coordinates End of Year Inventory.
• Responsible for meeting Manchester Board of Health, State and JCAHO standards.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
• Knowledge of computer and standard office equipment. Ability to perform basic mathematics.
• Ability to deal assertively and tactfully with sales people and other representatives.

Qualifications:

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience: Two (2) to three (3) years buyer experience in a high volume, extremely detailed oriented office environment required. Healthcare experience preferred.
• Software/Hardware: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office with a high focus in Excel.
