Elliot Health System - Director of Employee Relations & Recognition

Reporting to the Executive Director of Human Resources, the Director of Employee Relations and Recognition is a leadership level Human Resources Business partner responsible for leading the efforts to foster a positive workplace environment by directing all employee relations efforts, ensuring compliance with employment law, and leading HR compliance and employee recognition programs across Elliot Health System.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures alignment of all health system Employee Relations, Recognition, and Human Resources Compliance programs with the mission, vision, values, culture, management system, and goals of The Elliot Health System.

  • Builds and develops a team of engaged and effective Human Resources professionals to support the objectives of the department and organization.

  • Develops appropriate benchmarks to assess and report enterprise Employee Relations, Human Resources Compliance, and Recognition performance.  Evaluates and improves performance of programs and efforts by establishing objectives and measurements.

  • Leads the development of programs and trainings to educate leadership on contemporary Human Resources /Employee Relations concepts, employment/labor laws, positive employee relations efforts, Human Resources compliance requirements, etc.

  • Leads, develops, and oversees the implementation of recognition programs and tools to engage, recognize and value Elliot employees to advance our mission to be the first choice to give and receive care.  

  • Oversees the development and implementation of The Elliot Health System Corrective Action policy.

  • Monitors and analyzes trends in employee behavior and satisfaction, using data to develop targeted initiatives aimed at improving employee engagement, retention, and productivity.

  • Leads the establishment of programs, tools, metrics, and standard work to ensure Human Resources compliance and readiness related to the Human Resources components of internal programs and external regulatory programs (DNV), etc.

  • As a member of the Human Resources Leadership Team, provides overarching goals and vision for the Human Resources Division. Proposes, develops, implements, and monitors strategy and structure to achieve these goals.

  • Accountable for developing, fostering, and maintaining an effective Human Resources relationship with local operational leaders. Collaborates with functional HR leaders as well as local leaders to facilitate achieving business needs and objectives. Mentors and coach leaders by providing performance assessment, coaching, guidance, and feedback on professional development.

  • Oversees the development of the Employee Relations, Human Resources Compliance and Recognition annual budget and is accountable for fiscal stewardship of the budget.

  • Partners on the development and implementation of programs, special projects, research studies and other divisional initiatives to identify best practices and process improvements in order to promote functional efficiency and productivity, as directed by the Executive Director of Human Resources and/or CHRO.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws/regulations; the Code of Conduct; as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

  • Provides role model leadership and an environment of engagement to a team of Human Resources professionals.

  • Partners closely with the Office of Legal Services and Risk and Compliance.

Position Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required, (MBA or MA) in Human Resources, Business Administration, or Industrial Psychology preferred.

  • Licensure/Certification: PHR/SPHR

  • Experience: 10+ years of comprehensive Human Resources experience to include at least 5 years in a significant human resources leadership role of a large and complex organization with focus on Employee Relations. Direct healthcare Human Resources experience strongly preferred.
