Apply Job ID JR8240 Date posted 06/30/2025The Executive Director, Musculoskeletal Services, leads Elliot Health Systems (EHS) Musculoskeletal service line across multiple sites, with responsibilities inclusive of the development and implementation of system-level strategic plans, policies and procedures, and provision of overall administrative direction and coordination for the Orthopedics, Oral Maxillofacial, Occupational Medicine, Orthopedic Spine, Interventional Spine, Pain Management and Orthopedic Trauma Services (“Musculoskeletal Services”). The Executive Director will have matrix reporting to The Chief Physician Executive & SVP of Medical Affairs, and The Chief Nurse Executive & SVP and a dyad leadership model working in collaboration with the Executive Medical Director of Musculoskeletal Services. The Executive Director will collaborate with system leadership to accomplish strategic objectives for the Musculoskeletal services and is accountable for providing operational leadership, financial, clinical, business development, care coordination, and standardization for the service line. The Executive Director is responsible for emphasizing consistency of standards and ensuring clinical and administrative “best practices” are communicated, shared, and implemented throughout the system. Provides strategic planning, direction and executive leadership for the development, growth, and advancement of patient centered care for all Musculoskeletal Services for EHS.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic & Business Planning
• Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic roadmap that aligns with priorities and advances system-wide integration and excellence in care delivery.
• Participate in system-wide strategic development and deployment of long-term and annual goals.
• Maintain an in-depth understanding of the value chain and episodes of care from access and diagnostics to delivery and post-acute services and drive operational and financial decisions.
• Identify market trends, growth opportunities, and emerging technologies to guide service line evolution and differentiation.
• Explore strategic partnerships, affiliations, and service export opportunities to expand reach and community impact.
• Ensures services are clinically and financially sound and responsive to the changing health care environment locally, regionally, and nationally.
• Provides leadership to foster new business and pursue new program directions based on changing trends.
• Guide the development, expansion, and integration of new and existing programs.
• Ensure Elliot’s mission and vision to be your first choice to give and receive care and all areas of the 5Cs (i.e., Comprehensive, Confident, Coordinated, Convenient, and Cost-Conscious) are deployed throughout the Center and adjacent service lines.
• Partners to implement digital health tools and innovations to enhance care delivery, patient engagement, and access for appropriate populations.
Direct Operational Leadership
• Provide administrative oversight of all Musculoskeletal departments and programs, including staffing, performance, throughput, and care delivery optimization.
• Lead daily operations ensuring patient access, clinical workflow, provider productivity, and efficient use of resources. • Ensure programs are designed and managed to reflect the full continuum of care and support optimal outcomes at every stage.
• Demonstrate constancy of purpose in embedding and sustaining the Elliot Management System.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational transparency through visible leadership and ongoing use of Lean management tools.
• Responsible for selecting and maintaining qualified personnel, identifying needs, recommending employee actions, and communicating the progress of plans.
• Develops succession planning and leadership development strategies for key clinical and operational roles to ensure long-term strength and resilience of the service lines.
Financial Responsibility & Resource Planning
• Develop and manage operational and capital budgets services ensuring fiscal discipline and value-based decision-making.
• Oversee resource allocation, facilities planning, and capital investment planning to support sustainable service growth.
• Work with Revenue Cycle leadership to optimize billing and advance new revenue streams.
• Leverage clinical decision support and analytic tools to help clinical and operational leaders understand cost of care, contribution margins, and performance by DRG or episode.
• Collaborate with finance and analytics teams to ensure clinical decisions are informed by data.
• Ensure optimal care coordination, risk capture, and care model innovation to improve quality and reduce avoidable utilization and cost.
Clinical and Quality Oversight
• Ensures the consistent delivery of high-quality services and programs that are responsive to the needs of patients, community, and providers and meet all regulatory requirements.
• Partner with clinical leaders to ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, patient- and family-centered care.
• Advance continuous improvement, quality and safety initiatives, and consistency in clinical standards across the continuum.
• Ensure that the programs and services are fully integrated into the Elliot Quality Management System, with alignment to the principles of Just Culture and Whole System Quality.
• Drive initiatives to improve patient and family experiences.
• Align services with population health goals and community health needs. • Participate in local, state, regional and national quality improvement coalitions and networks.
Governance and Collaboration
• Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and respect for people within multidisciplinary teams.
• Partner with senior leaders, physician leadership, nursing leadership, clinical integrated service leaders, and governance bodies to advance shared priorities. • Collaborates with medical staff and administration regarding service expansion, new medical interventions and programs, and physician recruitment. Engage providers in program design, and continuous improvement. •Collaborates with Human Resources and other partners to develop workforce strategies, including pipeline development, recruitment, retention, and well-being initiatives tailored to musculoskeletal services.
• Serve as a key liaison to external partners and vendors.
• Identifies opportunities to secure grants and integrate academic partnerships that enhance care innovation and reputation.
• Maintain excellent communication with all partners.
Position Qualifications:
Education: Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business, Public Health, or related healthcare field. Previous administrative responsibilities. Clinical Background Strongly Preferred
Licensure/Certification:
None required, clinical licensure preferred; Project management or lean/six sigma certification is advantageous. Certified Professional in clinical area or leadership preferred.
Experience:
Required:
Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in clinical areas.

Experience in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to drive quality improvement initiatives.
Background in managing budgets, resources, and operational expenses. • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement.
Proven experience leading complex care delivery programs.
In-depth understanding of healthcare quality standards, regulatory requirements, and accreditation processes.
Knowledge of evidence-based practice guidelines and clinical quality metrics in related fields
Skills:
Strong collaborative leadership and project management skills.
Experience with the suite of Microsoft products including Excel, Word, Visio, Teams and PowerPoint programs.
Excellent verbal and written communication with ability to synthesize and present with ease.
Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation to inform decision-making. Proficiency with quality management systems and tools, including ISO documentation and QMS software (e.g., EzTrack).
