Eligible for Enhanced Float Pool Differential

Who We Are:

At Southern New Hampshire Medical Center our Maternal & Child Health Nurses provide flexible support across three core areas: The Birth Place, Special Care Nursery, and Pediatrics. The Birth Place is an 18-room Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) unit delivering family-centered care for over 1,000 births annually, staffed by a multidisciplinary team and supported by advanced monitoring and best practices. The Level II Special Care Nursery cares for infants 32+ weeks, including those with respiratory or feeding needs, in collaboration with Mass General and Boston Children’s specialists. The 8-bed Pediatrics unit serves newborns through adolescents with a range of medical and post-operative needs. Together, these departments offer a dynamic, collaborative environment where float nurses deliver high-quality, compassionate care across the full continuum of maternal and child health.

About the Job

The MCH Clinical Float Pool RN is an experienced registered nurse who provides flexible coverage across multiple units within the Maternal Child Health division. The float pool nurse does not have a fixed unit assignment -- floating within the division is the primary function of this role. Float pool nurses are selected for this role based on clinical depth in their home specialty, a genuine comfort with variability, and willingness to maintain competency across multiple care settings.

What You’ll Do:

  • Float within assigned units on most scheduled shifts as directed by the staffing supervisor or charge nurse.
  • Provide safe, competent, independent nursing care in each credentialed unit -- functioning as a full staff nurse, not in a support or observation capacity.
  • LDRP Track: Provide intrapartum, postpartum, triage, and immediate newborn care in LDRP. Provide stable Level II neonatal care in SCN.
  • SCN Track: Provide stable Level II neonatal care in SCN. Provide postpartum maternal and well-newborn couplet care and nursery function in postpartum unit.
  • Both tracks: Provide general pediatric care in the Pediatrics unit when credentialed and deployed by supervisor.
  • Maintain all required certifications current at all times. Report any lapse to the float pool coordinator immediately.
  • Complete cross-training orientation in all assigned units within the timeline established at hire.
  • Maintain recency-of-practice requirements for each credentialed unit as outlined in the float pool policy.
  • Complete annual competency validation for all credentialed units.
  • Complete accurate, timely documentation in the EHR in accordance with unit-specific standards on every shift.
  • Communicate proactively with the staffing supervisor and charge nurse regarding any concerns about assignment appropriateness, clinical recency, or patient safety.

Who You Are:

  • Current, unrestricted RN licensure in the state of practice.
  • Minimum 3 years, preferably 5 years, of active clinical experience in the home unit specialty (LDRP or SCN). Current practice within the past 12 months required.
  • BLS and NRP current at hire.
  • EFM competency current at hire or within 60 days (LDRP track).

Why You’ll Love Us:

  • Southern NH Medical Center is a 5-time Magnet-designated hospital
  • Health, dental, prescription, and vision coverage for full-time & part-time employees
  • Competitive pay
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan
  • Education & Paid training courses for continued career progression

& So much more!
