About the Job:
The Genetic Counselor Assistant supports the Genetics Division by preparing patient cases, coordinating clinic workflows, and ensuring efficient, family‑centered care. Working on‑site and under the supervision of a Genetic Counselor, this role blends administrative support with clinical preparation to enhance the patient experience and streamline genetic services.
What You’ll Do:
Collect family histories, medical histories, and relevant records prior to patient appointments.
Construct and update pedigrees for upcoming clinic visits.
Prepare charts by gathering documentation, updating the EMR, and communicating changes to care teams.
Manage incoming calls and emails related to genetic services and referrals.
Obtain pre‑authorizations for genetic testing and related medical services.
Draft letters of medical necessity with guidance from genetic counselors.
Coordinate clinic workflow, including scheduling, communication, and file maintenance.
Track genetic test results and follow up with laboratories when turnaround times exceed expectations.
Support research efforts and stay current with emerging genetic discoveries.
Schedule patient appointments and monitor incoming referrals.
Communicate with patients, staff, and genetic testing companies regarding results and care coordination.
Track positive and negative patient outcomes and ensure timely follow‑up.
Collaborate closely with genetic counselors and the nurse navigator to ensure referrals are scheduled and authorizations obtained.
