About the Job
The Patient Relations Representative supports the Central Billing Office within the Revenue Cycle department and plays a key role in promoting revenue integrity. This position is responsible for resolving patient billing questions accurately and efficiently while delivering exceptional customer service. The role is on‑site and involves frequent interaction with patients, families, internal departments, and external vendors.
What You’ll Do
Respond to patient billing inquiries via phone, email, and in person, documenting all interactions in the electronic patient accounting system
Review and explain accounts receivable processes, insurance payments, and patient financial responsibility
Assist patients and family members in understanding insurance Explanation of Benefits and resolving billing concerns
Determine appropriate payment resolution paths, including payment in full, payment plans, Medicaid, or other options
Collaborate with Financial Counselors, Early Out vendors, and Bad Debt vendors
Support internal departments with billing‑related questions
Correct and update patient demographic and insurance information as needed
Manage assigned work queues and special billing projects
Forward attorney and collection agency inquiries to Revenue Cycle leadership
Perform additional duties as assigned
Who You Are / Requirements
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
1–3 years of experience in medical billing, collections, or a related role within a hospital, physician office, or insurance setting
Working knowledge of CMS guidelines, third‑party payers, Medicaid, managed care products, workers’ compensation, and liability plans
Understanding of state and federal regulations related to self‑pay collections and Fair Debt Policy
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to follow through on tasks
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑call‑volume environment while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
Prior EPIC billing experience
Bilingual in English and Spanish
