About the Job:
The On-Call Operating Room Registered Nurse is readily available to respond to surgical emergencies outside of normal operating room schedules. This role provides nursing care for patients ranging from 6 months of age through adulthood who require surgical or invasive procedures under various types of anesthesia. The nurse delivers patient-centered care using evidence-based practice, teamwork, collaboration, technology, and quality improvement initiatives to ensure optimal patient outcomes and safety.
What You’ll Do:
Respond to surgical emergencies and provide on-call operating room nursing coverage.
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care based on individual patient needs.
Deliver patient-centered nursing care utilizing the Professional Practice Model.
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary team members to provide comprehensive care.
Engage patients and families as partners in care delivery and decision-making.
Integrate evidence-based practice and current clinical knowledge into patient care.
Utilize data, technology, and electronic medical records to support quality, safety, and clinical decision-making.
Delegate appropriate care activities to members of the patient care team.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient experience programs.
Promote a culture of safety and minimize risk to patients and healthcare providers.
Support patient comfort, privacy, and confidentiality.
Participate in unit-based councils and organizational initiatives.
Utilize established communication and escalation processes to address clinical, administrative, or patient safety concerns.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Who You Are / Requirements:
Education
Associate’s Degree in Nursing required.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing required by 2029 or within 10 years for Registered Nurses hired after 2019.
Licensure/Certification
Current New Hampshire Registered Nurse license required.
CNOR certification preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire.
Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of Operating Room Registered Nurse experience required.
Knowledge & Skills
Commitment to professional nursing practice and lifelong learning.
Ability to utilize evidence-based practice in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Strong communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
Proficiency with electronic medical record documentation and healthcare technology.

Ability to achieve unit-specific competencies within designated timeframes, including:
Safe care and handling of surgical equipment
Decontamination of surgical instrumentation
Scrubbing, gowning, and gloving techniques
Aseptic technique
Circulating general and specialty surgical cases
Operating room equipment setup
Microscope and surgical lighting systems
Electrosurgical units and laser technology
Orthopedic and specialty surgical systems
Specialty areas including ENT, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Vascular, Orthopedics, Neurology, Gynecology, Genitourinary, and Robotic Surgery
