About the Job:
The Medical Assistant in our Rheumatology Practice supports patients living with autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions by providing both clinical and administrative assistance under the supervision of a provider and Practice Manager. You’ll work closely with rheumatologists to assist with disease monitoring, medication administration (including biologic therapies), lab coordination, patient education, and follow-up care. This role blends compassionate patient interaction with detailed clinical tasks, ensuring patients receive coordinated, comprehensive care to manage complex, chronic conditions.
What You’ll Do:
- Support rheumatologists in delivering in-person, telephone, and telehealth patient care
- Administer medications and injections, including biologics, within scope of practice
- Perform point-of-care testing and assist with laboratory specimen collection and processing
- Document patient history, procedures, communications, and test results accurately in the EMR
- Prepare patients for joint assessments, ultrasound-guided procedures, and infusion therapy
- Provide patient education on medication regimens, lifestyle modifications, and disease management
- Assist with pre-visit planning, test coordination, and chronic care follow-up
- Maintain compliance with safety, infection control, HIPAA, and confidentiality guidelines
- Perform administrative tasks including scheduling, patient service, and medical records support
- Participate in mentoring/training new staff and completing annual skills competencies
Who You Are:
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of a Medical Assistant program or 3 years’ MA experience preferred
- Current BLS/CPR certification required
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA-AAMA) preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, EMR systems, and clinical workflows
- Understanding of rheumatology and chronic disease management preferred
- Strong communication, time management, and teamwork skills
