About the Job:
The Clinical Nurse Manager assumes 24 hour / 7 days a week responsibility for managing the operations of their assigned unit. The Clinical Nurse Manager oversees professional nursing practice to achieve safe, quality patient care as defined by the strategic goals of the medical center. Serves as a transformational leader and maintains current knowledge to coordinate the delivery of care to the specific patient populations cared for on the unit assigned. This role effectively manages within a complex environment through collaboration by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies. The Clinical Nurse Manager serves as a role model and transformational leader in promoting adaptation to change and a positive work environment.
What You'll Do:
- Communicate effectively in a mature and respectful manner with employees, patients / family members and other healthcare disciplines to promote a positive work environment.
- Maintain confidentiality of reported and recorded information related to department flow, personnel considerations, patient complaints and events to ensure privacy.
- Ensure clinical competency by supporting a unit-based orientation and education program.
- Maintain unit-based compliance with organizational, professional, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with Director of Inpatient Services to implement plans to address areas identified as opportunities for improvement according to Patient Satisfaction Survey results.
- Collaborate with M/S ICU leadership to promote unit, departmental and organizational goals.
- Ensure appropriate staff experience mix and numbers are available to meet the needs of patient population
- Use effective prioritization and problem-solving skills in response to delegation while ensuring timely task completion.
- Collaborate with the Director Inpatient Services and Human Resource Business Partner to assist in the management of all aspects of personnel hiring, disciplinary action, and terminations.
- Contribute to the work of interdisciplinary teams in the development, implementation and evaluation of quality initiatives and area-specific operational outcomes.
- Participate in the preparation of the annual departmental budget including projected census, revenues, staffing and operating and capital expenses.
- Assume responsibility for and achieve unit-based operational outcomes.
- Serve as a unit-based transformational leader.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions:
- Set team expectations regarding model and delivery of care.
- Communicate with Director findings from the peer review process within the unit-based structure.
- Formulate response to difference in variance reports when requested.
- Collaborate with Director to prepare annual budget.
- Identify and implement unit-based cost reduction strategies.
- Identify safety hazards or unsafe practices and take immediate corrective action.
- Deliver evidence-based practice by participating in and involving staff in quality improvement and research activities.
- Conduct routine leadership rounds and provide timely service recovery.
- Allocate unit-based staffing and scheduling consistent with patient acuity and budgetary guidelines.
- Monitor, analyze and take action to advance safety and satisfaction survey results.
- Create a work environment that supports staff participation in committees, projects, and practice initiatives.
- Support staff development and attainment of specialty certification and advanced education.
- Maintain clinical competence in the M/S /ICU setting.
- Maintain unit-based compliance with organizational, professional, and regulatory standards.
- Complete staff recognition through acknowledgement of compliments, nomination for awards (DAISY, RN of the Year, LNA of the Year, etc.), and PCS newsletter submissions.
- Completion of assigned controlled substance administration audits for nurse staff.
- Annual participation / project submission in the Center for Quality and Safety Quality Symposium.
- Complete periodic/annual performance evaluations within establish time frames.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in in Nursing required.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
Licensure/certification
- Include due date if licensure/certification is required after hire.
- Current NH licensure as a Registered Nurse required.
Certifications:
- BLS
- ACLS unit appropriate
Experience
A minimum of three (3) years of progressive leadership experience required.
